Default fuel smell trunk

I am getting bad fuel smell in the trunk and cabin of the 964. I did a quick look around last night and think that I have a bad grommet 964 201 375 00 going to the shut off valve. How hard should it be to wiggle the shut off valve on top of expansion tank?

Of course if this is not it I will look further into the filler neck update and I already have a new gas cap.

Thanks for any input

That gromet doesn't seal anything. It just holds the valve in place on the expansion tank.

Becareful with the valve the nipple can be easily snapped off.

I have a fuel smell too, and replaced the neck, the cap, the fill hose took the expansion tank off tightened all the hose clamps but it still presists.

I just replace the fill hose I hope that will finaly take care of it once and for all.

i had the fuel small and replaced the fuel filler neck and the problem was solved.
i was able to determine it was the neck by:
a) some close sniffing in the area around the neck/tanks/hoses.
b) the o-ring on the fuel cap was always wet with petrol. should be dry.
c) i pulled of all the hoses & top tank and couldn't see any other problems

Sunset Imports

Genuine Porsche Part: FUEL FILLER NECK
- This part may be shipped directly from the manufacturer.
- This is a special-order OEM part and is non-returnable except
for warranty replacement.

From memory the 964-201-043-07 has the diameter for LEADED, so go for the 06 for UNLEADED only.

Replace all the rubber lines between the expansion tank and the fuel tank first before you replace the filler neck. After 20 odd years they will get mushy and not seal well. If that doesn't fix it then proceed to the filler neck.

Try steam cleaning the carpet too - it can hold lots of smell.

Thanks Marc,

I pulled out the carpet the other day and I do not think I am going to put it back in.

last pic here shows mine after a few mins soak (it is nearly 20years old) . I no longer use it (along with the back seats) and it now sits in storage. I Have a fuel smell too, but without anything to absorb the smell i don't worry anymore as it instantly goes when i open the bonnet. I only get the smell when the tank is half empty, don't know if that is significant but it may be important to clarify when its at its worst. then you can narrow down the specific parts to replace

washing carpet

I never though it was worth throwing money at it to cure, especially as some haven't managed to sort it (after reading various threads) Good luck

Go to the upgraded fuel neck and filler. If you already have it than tighten everything.
